EcoCrop Mat - World First Organic Certification Release Date: 2007-04-20 BioGro New Zealand Limited, [view bio-gro link], has formally approved EcoCrop (EcoCover's short life mat) to the world's highest organic standard, IFOAM, [view ifoam link]. To the best of our knowledge, EcoCrop is the world's first short life mulch mat that is cost competitive with plastic and may be left in situ to biodegrade or simply ploughed into the soil after harvesting and not require uplifting.BioGro trademarks more than $100m of organic product annually and is one of only 30 international certification agencies accredited to the International Federation of Organic Agricultural Movements (IFOAM). EcoCover uniquely has IFOAM organic certification from two of their worldwide certifiers. EcoCover Mulch Mat (extended life product) is certified by AgriQuality and now EcoCrop mat, a product that has an entirely different adhesive system that provides additional strength for auto laying by tractor, certified by BioGro. EcoCrop has the potential to replace more than 30m acres [12m ha] of plastic that is laid down annually for short term agriculture in addition to supplying organically certified crops where plastic must be entirely removed from the soil, or increasingly expensive hand weeding is practised.
